First Paragraph

Although many TOS members may be accustomed to working within the context of the large international programs and are aware of the role and achievements of SCOR (the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research), the purposes and operation of this organization may not always be readily identified or appreciated by the community-at-large. This brief article is designed to provide some information on SCOR—what it is and what it does for the international ocean sciences community.
